We are very happy that Doug Kauer has allowed us to be the exclusive U.S. dealer of his Banshee model guitar. The Banshee is a Firebird inspired guitar That Doug has been making for a few years in limited quantities. He favored spending his time designing and refining his original Daylighter line of guitars but is now building these on on a custom order basis. I was very impressed with the ideas Doug had employed in improving the original design of the Firebird and addressing some flaws that have always made it a bit hard to use.
Doug Builds these out of Spanish Cedar, which is a type of mahogany which is becoming very popular because of its similarity to the old growth honduran mahogany used in the 50s and 60s on most Gibson guitars . Also, He has strengthened the headstock area which is prone to cracking even a light impact on the classic Firebird design, making this a much more practical guitar. Also, using Steinberger tuners instead of the traditional banjo tuners helps with the tendency of these guitars to be very headstock heavy.
The Banshee is available with one, two, or three pickups. Different tailpieces can be used, wraparound, stop or even a Bigsby can be ordered. It comes in many custom colors as well. You can create a very specialized instrument with different pickups and color schemes.

Doug Kauer really does an amazing job on this reworking of a vintage classic. Keeping it recognizable, yet addressing some of the reasons a lot of us have had difficulty using Firebirds in the past has made these a very popular and exciting project.
